Position Overview

PolicyLink is seeking a Senior Associate to lead and evolve our work to eliminate unjust fines and fees. The Senior Associate will also support other projects to transform the economy and criminal-legal system through advocacy, research, and movement building. This position is full time and can be performed remotely. 

 

The ideal candidate will have significant experience advocating for the dismantling of unjust fines and fees and/or other economic justice campaigns, including local budget advocacy. The ideal candidate will also be experienced and comfortable working closely with elected officials and/or government staff. The candidate should have a sophisticated understanding of and passion for racial equity.

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as engagement lead of Cities & Counties for Fine and Fee Justice, a newly launched network of localities committed to fine and fee reform.
  • Represent PolicyLink in the Debt Free Justice California coalition, including sitting on the coalition’s Steering Committee.
  • Develop and grow expertise on equity issues at the intersection of the economy and criminal-legal system and identify opportunities for additional impact.

 

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required

  • 5-8 years’ experience in a related field and/or racial justice nonprofit organization, including a demonstrated record of significant contributions to relevant campaigns and/or programs. 
  • Excellent project management and meeting facilitation skills.
  • The ability to lead and inspire teams.
  • Commitment and desire to effectively manage a full, shifting workload.
  • Comfort with communicating and receiving frequent, open, and honest feedback.
  • Sophisticated understanding of—and deep-seated drive to eliminate—structural inequity.
  • Mature and nuanced judgment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people.

 

Education and Experience Qualifications

Graduate or professional degree or equivalent experience preferred.
